My name is Bob Burdon. I am your host for this website. I started this blog to share my business experiences as a manager and an executive; often in change-management environments. I am also like many of you; a consumer of goods and services making both small and large daily purchasing decisions.
It would have been very useful to have the business experience and knowledge I have now when I was younger. Most of us later in our business careers, and in life, have reflected upon this thought. While we cannot have a do-over, we can share our experiences and knowledge with younger generations preparing for careers in business. We can also share with those older who are transitioning to a different career or starting a business. This blog will seek to offer that forum to those who may find it helpful in their pursuits. As the blog develops, we’ll open the comments and discussion areas for others to share their experiences and knowledge. Hopefully, this sharing will develop into a collective wisdom for all to contribute and draw from.
Background
I retired after 38 years in management and executive positions. I have managed and led both public and privately held corporations, as well as non-profit business organizations. I’ve also done a few business formations and start-ups, and a couple of mergers. I have an entrepreneurial side of me tempered by a pragmatic appreciation for our dynamic business environment; both domestically and globally.
My LinkedIn page provides a history of my business journey. You can view it here. If you do not have a LinkedIn account, I strongly encourage you to create one. I consider it an essential tool for you and your business.
Forming a Business Philosophy
My experiences over the years have gradually help me form a business philosophy. By philosophy, I mean a foundation of fundamental beliefs and understanding that works best for me when approaching business and/or consumer opportunities, challenges, and issues. That said, some of my experiences are shared experiences others have also encountered, and some are unique to my particular business and life journey. I want to emphasize that my musings (reflections, thoughts, introspections, etc.) are not meant for, nor should be interpreted as, rendering legal, accounting, tax, or other professional advice and services. As such, this website and its contents should not be used as a substitute for consultation with professional accounting, tax, legal or other competent advisers. Please take a moment to read our disclosure/terms and conditions policy.
So, let’s roll-up our sleeves and get to work!
